St Martin's Church
Dating from the 12th century, St Martin's Church has been destroyed, rebuilt and refurbished over the centuries. A treasure trove of works of art, the church houses a fully-fledged 19th-century carillon. Its showpiece is certainly the 'Triptych of the Holy Spirit' by Bernard de Rijckere from 1587: a Pentecost scene depicting the baptism of Jesus and the creation of Adam. Impressive is the unique Sacrament Tower standing 6.50 meters tall and dating from 1585. The 83m spire, visible from afar, determines the city’s skyline. From the summer of 2019, it will be permanently open to the public. A new brochure that contains all the information about the Church will appear during that time.
