The Kortrijk Theatre is just about the largest performing arts centre in South-West Flanders. The building dates from 1920 and is conceived as a théâtre à l'italienne. More than 800 spectators look from a spacious ground floor and 3 balconies at an immense frame, in which the stage is contained.
The Kortrijk Theatre was restored in the early 2000s. The auditorium was restored to its former glory yet in a contemporary design. Fuchsia red, bright orange and deep grey set the mood. The eye-catcher par excellence is a beautiful glass dome by the French-Algerian artist Alberola. A wondrous zodiac immediately draws the attention of the spectators. They leave the outside world behind them, ready to be swept away by the fantastic medium called theatre.
The theatre is the largest auditorium in the complex. In the same building, you'll also find the Arena Theatre, a small-scale flat-floor theatre with extendable grandstand. It is used for small theatre productions, poetry, projections, lectures and receptions.
Between the theatre and the Arena Theatre is the foyer, a refreshment area during the break, but can also be used separately for exhibitions, receptions and even performances in a café-chantant atmosphere.
