Due to its location on the outskirts of the city the graveyard does not look like a traditional urban churchyard with narrow paths and graves, stones and trees, but like a park that flows seamlessly into the green landscape. The Italian urban architect Bernardo Secchi allows the cemetery to roll out like a carpet, in which the ceremony building is buried in the slope and twelve level areas or burial fields that closely follow the lay of the land. Besides the terraces a small orchard has been planted on a wide gravel strip between which stand simple freestone columbaria. In the valley a lawn serves as a meadow for scattering ashes.
